With the winter coming, it is not a surprise that many of us, bikers start wondering about protecting our precious bikes for the snowy season. i am not sure about you but I will not be cycling for the next few months, the snow will be too heavy to do anything about that. So, with that in mind, I will have to leave my bike in the garage, stale for the weeks ahead. Keeping it unused in the winter conditions will certainly make an effect on it so here are the things I will do to ensure that it is safe and sound:

1. Once a month I will be taking it off the bike rack to wipe it, clean and generally put some life into it.

2. I will use a grease on bicycle bearings to “winterize” them. A low temperature grease will do, and it will keep my bike in a good condition.

3. Once the snow melts I am back on my bike riding again! That’s a promise.

So what’s going to happen with this site for the winter? Nothing, it will operate just as normal. If you will be looking for good advice on bike racks, you will find it here.

If you want to share your opinions or experiences with using Bike racks, submit them to me here.

We live with my wife in a 500sq f condo and needless to say, space is not of abundance in the house. We have to make sure that we keep every inch of space we need but it often becomes a problem. It was no different with our two bikes we use for taking trips and exercise. We usually had our bikes standing by the wall opposite our entrance door but as you can imagine, it was taking a lot of space and made walking into the apartment quite difficult. Luckily thanks to Norah (thanks!) we discoverd this bike pole storage which turned out to be a bless.
I have to say that this bike looks really great. I was a bit skeptical when the both parts that make up the pole were lose in the packaging but luckily, they had no scratches on them.

The whole assembly is dead easy. I think it took us the whole 10 minutes to put the Racor Pro PLB-2R together and at least twice as long to figure out where to put it. We eventually settled for one of the walls. In fact, I recommend that you use the long screw provided and secure the rack to the wall. It will make it thing less portable, sure. However, this way you can be sure that it will not tilt or fall down.

We went for the 2 bike option and it works perfectly for us. The Racor Pro PLB-2R is a great bargain and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good bike storage solution.

I have to say that I am extremely happy with this bike hanger. I have researched the Racor Pro PSB 1R on the internet and found some mixed reviews, but from my experience it is certainly up to Racor, and my standards!

I use the Racor double model in the garage to store our two adult bikes that we own. As a result I can now pull another car in. It is a real space saver! There is also a single bike model available, but that would be no use for us. I know that some people use the single model to store two bikes as well but for such a low price I wouldn’t risk the rack and my bikes getting damaged.

This bike hanger is attached to the wall with just three screws, so the installation is very simple. We certainly didn’t have any problems with it. One thing I would recommend is to use long wood screws to mount it. They definitely add the extra protection to the rack. Also, those two screw have to go all the way into the stud on your wall to have it mounted properly.

The hanger seems sturdy enough for most ordinary bikes, however, I probably wouldn’t try it on a heavier bike. It works good on our bikes though and so far, we didn’t have any problems (and it’s been two months since we started using the Racor Pro PSB 1R).

The rack folds nicely up to move it out of the way, which I think is really nice.

The only thing I could point out is what I have already mentioned above. This bike hanger is very solid and strong enough for most bikes but probably not suitable for the heavier ones. If you have light bikes or you are buying it for your kids’ bicycles, then the product is perfect. I highly recommend it.

Having their bike stolen is what many bicycle owners fear greatly. It is not a nice feeling to realize that the equipment you use to exercise or for pleasure has been taken away by somebody else. However, you can protect your bike from theft by using a bike rack. By securely attaching your bicycle to it you can prevent it from being stolen or damaged.

Different kinds of bike racks give you a different level of security. Some free standing bike racks are securely bolted to the ground, making them impossible to be carried away. Wall mounted bike racks hold your bicycle attached to the wall and ceiling lifts keep it away from reach.

In the old days, many bike racks used to secure only one wheel of the bike, therefore allowing a thief to still take the frame of the bike and the other wheel. These days these systems are sophisticated and make it really difficult to take even a single component of the bike.

However, it can be really difficult to decide whether a bike rack is a good solution for you if you don’t know the various types of them. Below is a short introduction to four most common bike types.

Wall mounted racks

This type of a rack allows you to secure your bicycle on your garage wall, freeing a lot of valuable floor space. Bikes are either secured by their wheels or attached in a riding position. The main benefit of this rack type is that it keeps your bikes off the garage floor, preventing quite a lot of potential damage that may happen to your equipment.

Ceiling Lifts

Ceiling lifts hold your bicycle suspended close to the ceiling. They are very easy to install and operate. Bikes are usually hang on a system of hooks and ropes. Taking the bike down from the ceiling lift is easy too. All you have to do is lower the bike and it is ready to be used.

Bike trees

The last type of bike racks I want to introduce to you is bike trees. This system is hugely mobile and does not force one particular location to store your bike. A bike tree is a ramp on which you hang your bikes. It can be placed anywhere and moved around if needs be. However, you can also bolt it to the ground and secure it in one place.

Bike racks are a wonderful protection from theft or damage. If you value your bicycle you should definitely consider buying one.

Having a solid bike rack for garage is practically a must have for any bicycle owner. Without it any equipment is simply prone to damage and theft, let alone the fact that it can pose danger to anyone around it. Luckily, with a great variety of garage bike racks available on the market you shouldn’t have any problems choosing the best solution to store your bike. Whether you live in a huge house with a spacious garage or a store room or an apartment in town, there are solutions perfect to your needs. From single bike racks to one that can store all your family bikes out of the way.

There are generally two types of garage bike racks that most people consider. Wall mounted bike racks or free standing bike trees and both are perfect to store your bikes safely.

The wall mounted bike rack is a permanent storage solution so keep that in mind when you make your decision. These racks are mounted on a wall allowing you to keep your bikes out of the way. They come fully assembled and very little work is required to get them up and start using them for your storage.

Free standing bike tree is convenient if you don’t want to use a permanent solution and do not have much space for it either. They require very little space and you can have them set up within minutes. Free standing bike racks can hold from one to many bikes.

One of the greatest benefits of using bike racks for garage is that they offer you the ability to organize your garage and free a lot of usually badly needed floor space for other purposes. Garage bike racks also help to protect your equipment from falling or having some objects falling on them by accident. In addition to that, garage bike racks protect your bikes from theft as your equipment is usually securely locked in them.

It is definitely a good investment to buy a garage bike rack to store your equipment. Not only to protect them but also to give you the piece of mind that nothing bad is going to happen to your precious bicycle.
